 Upwork has been the leader in remote work for more than 20 years. We're looking now for an exceptional executive who will lead the next generation evolution of our product. This includes spearheading our evolution from a marketplace solution with a single way to buy to a true horizontal platform through which clients source talent and deliverables via multiplemodels, and humanizing our product so that it not only drives engagement, innovation, and long term growth, but also delights our users be they freelancers, solopreneurs, rapidly growing businesses, or the Fortune 50.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The right person for this role cares deeply about Upwork’s mission of creating economic opportunities so people have better lives. They view, and have honed, product management as a craft. They are a connoisseur of great products online and on mobile, and can see through flash to understand what truly makes great products succeed.

The successful applicant:

  • will have seen scale and growth that exceeds our own current situation, but not our ambitions;
  • will have created a perspective that views Product, Design, Customer Experience (CX) and critical cross-functional partners (Engineering, Marketing and Sales) as critical players within an overarching system; and
  • will know how to structure and develop this system to be strong enough to withstand our challenges, but flexible enough to evolve and bend.

 

LEADERSHIP SKILLS

Our new leader will have grown, established best practices, and developed diverse teams throughout their career.  They are decisive, bold and willing to make the hard calls in the interest of the business.

This person will:

  • push colleagues to drive accountability and clarity of roles to build the best execution machine possible,
  • know how to leverage all aspects of their team for the greatest impact, and
  • be insightful about the best balance of technology and people to create the most significant returns for CX.

 

A VOICE FOR THE CUSTOMER

Last, but possibly most importantly, this person will be an active participant in all executive conversations and a strong, opinionated partner with our CEO to develop the strategy for our product and company.

The right person for this role:

  • will say the uncomfortable things,
  • advocate for what is right for our customers, and
  • push us to lean into the company we can be.

This person will make our leadership, product, and company more impactful by enabling us to serve our customers better every single day.
